ADVISORY BOARDS AND COMMITTEES
 PURPOSE
 
AIRPORT ADVISORY BOARD
                Created by the Board of Commissioners to aid and assist in overall operation of the Airport.
BLUE RIDGE RESOURCE CONSERVATION & DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL
Coordinates a multicounty effort to improve the natural and human resources to make the seven- county area a better place to live, work, and play.
CEMETERY COMMITTEE
                Created by the Board of Commissioners in October 2009 to oversee cemeteries in Ashe County.
FARMLAND PRESERVATION ADVISORY BOARD
To promote health, safety, and rural agricultural values; to increase identity and pride in the agricultural community and its way of life; to encourage the economic and financial health of farming; to increase protection from undesirable, non-farm development; and increase the protection of farms from nuisance suits and other negative impacts on properly managed farms.
HCCOG WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT BOARD
Provides policy guidance and independent oversight of workforce development services for workforces in the seven-county region.
HOME & COMMUNITY CARE BLOCK GRANT COMMITTEE
Designed to improve planning and coordination of in-home and community-based services provided to older adults.  Commissioners are required to appoint a committee to plan and coordinate the development of a county funding plan.
JUVENILE CRIME PREVENTION COUNCIL       
The Board of Commissioners must appoint the JCPC membership to receive funding for juvenile court services and delinquency prevention programs.
LIBRARY BOARD
Serves as governing body of the Appalachian Regional Library as defined by the three-county Interlocal Agreement adopted June 2012.  
LOCAL EMERGENCY PLANNING COMMITTEE
The committee coordinates hazardous material planning, preparedness, response and mitigation issues at the local level. 
LONG TERM CARE JOINT COMMUNITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE
Created to maintain Nursing Home/Adult Care Home Residents Bill of Rights and to promote community involvement to ensure quality care for elderly and disabled adults.
NORTHWESTERN REGIONAL HOUSING AUTHORITY
Promotes adequate and affordable housing for those less fortunate in our communities providing economic opportunity and a suitable living environment free from discrimination.
PLANNING BOARD
The board’s purpose is to plan for future development of the County, to make land use decisions, and make recommendations to the County Board of Commissioners on policy and ordinance changes in regard to land use.
RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD
Created by the Board of Commissioners to aid and assist in the overall operation of the Parks and Recreation Department.
 VOLUNTEER ADVISORY BOARD
                Created to support and enhance volunteer opportunities and service in Ashe County.
WCC BOARD OF TRUSTEES
                Trustees are responsible for supervision of the college president and oversight of the institution.
WEST JEFFERSON ETJ BOARD
In an ETJ, the town has zoning authority in an area outside of its town limits where it is experiencing growth.  The Board of Commissioners has the authority to appoint a member to the town’s planning board to represent this area.
